Driving on the Beach in Destin? Legal or Not?
June 7, 2018
I thought the photos of people sliding down the newly restored dunes and disregarding the fence and signage at Norriego Point was bad, but this is unbelievable! This group chose to drive their vehicles onto the beach and have a party on the pass.
Not only are vehicles banned from all beaches in Okaloosa County per County Ordinance No. 80-12 (updated 16-45) -which restricts motor vehicles operating in areas not posted for vehicular traffic, in, on or over any public land, right of way, or recreational areas (public beaches included)- but it is also turtle nesting season and we have had several nests in that location in the last couple years!
The only way in is over/through protected dunes and lands. This is not only a violation of local, state and federal laws, it is dangerous, totally unacceptable, and must be addressed and halted.
